Option 1

First off, I was translating the yellow book. Because when something isn't translated, particularly when it's in hard copy, I have no way of knowing whether it has anything I want in it or not, other than what other people have gleaned from it. And the stuff I have got from it, following pointers (mostly from Porter), is good! But the problem with following pointers from others is that you are very much relying on how they have interpreted it from the surrounding context, and so you check this, you go (back) to the primary source and read it afresh and see what you take from it. Except if it's in a mixture of German, Latin, and ancient Greek, in which case you start slowly translating what you think might be the most relevant notebook a few sentences at a time, before apparently giving up at some point a couple of years ago when you had to, like, get a job or something.

I could start that up again… that doesn't feel like a manageable daily task though, or at least not currently (my primary todolist items for the next three months are "get tits chopped off" and "write a novel", and while I am usually a proponent of the "more! Mooooooore!" approach until I fall over without doing anything, I am currently feeling minded towards meaningful yet achievable goals. It's a thing I'm trying. Shut up.). I sort of want it to be a lifetime task, opening the yellow book up to do another few pages when I'm old and grey, despite the fact that by then either society will have crumbled or the yellow book will have been translated by someone more competent.

Those are the only two options, btw. So if you don't want society as we know it to crumble, better get translating!

Shit, maybe future me is the more competent translator? Do I want to stop society from crumbling? I don't know!

There is also the possibility that the library might want the book back before then.
